Artist Bios

 

Asher

Activist and artist (artivist?) Asher Kolieboi hails from Saint Louis, Missouri by way of Monrovia, Liberia, and graduated from University of Missouri- Columbia with a dual BA in Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies in 2009. Upon graduation Asher moved to Austin, Texas where he co-founded Queer Sol, a collective of artists, activists, and intellectuals working toward social justice for LGBTQ people through education and the cultural arts.

 In 2010 he was featured in The Advocate Magazine’s “Top 40 under 40” LGBTQ activist for his work with the Soulforce Equality Ride. His journey as a social justice activist started in 1999 when he came out and started a Gay Straight Alliance in his high school. Since then he has worked to create safe and inclusive learning communities and create dialogue about the intersections of gender, race, class, and sexuality.
